Spain at its Best - Friendly, Traditional and Unspoilt Conil
We searched a long time for a place in Spain to which we want to eventually semi retire but have fun in the meantime. Conil is the place we have chosen because we think that this is Spain at its best : friendly local atmosphere, unspoilt, a traditional 'pueblo blanco' (white walled town) with alleys and streets decorated with colourful plant-adorned patios; exceptional beaches and pretty coves along a 14 km coastline.

The climate boasts 3200 hours of sunshine throughout the year but is still moist enough to have green and lush farmland, hills, woods and nature reserves.
A Real Friendly Spanish Atmosphere:
Conil is a small town traditionally based on fishing and its famous farm and fruit produce; it has a vibrant atmosphere ("vivid culture" according to the Sunday Times !) with plenty of real Spanish bars serving delicious Tapas all day and night. There's regular flamenco evenings (the genuine local's evenings) and a number of restaurants serving local fresh fish, meat and other traditional foods. People from Conil love their fiestas and welcome outsiders to join in and everyone has fun.
Plenty To Do in Conil:
There is a mix of things to do both in the town and outside. The tourist brochure lists swimming, sailing, surfing, scuba diving, fishing, golf, beach sports, horse riding (especially along the beaches), mountain bikes, parapents, nature trailing, historic walks, large weekly market and of course night life (although Costa del Sol it is not !).
Conil, A Great Base for More Travel Adventures:
Conil is also an excellent base for visiting other fascinating places. Seville is 1 ½ to 2 hours away, Jerez with its sherry and white horses is less than an hour, Cadiz is ½ hour, Gibraltar is 1 to 2 hours and Morocco (Tangiers) is ½ hour by highspeed catamaran from Tarifa, itself some 40 minutes away. There are 1 and 2 day excursions available from £35 pp.
